Dirty Little Voice

He lost his job

Thrown out on the street

After serving for his country.

And the dirty little voice inside me said,

Better him than me.

At the town hall

When she stood to speak

They pushed her down and dragged her out.

And the dirty little voice inside me said,

Better her than me.

They snatched him up

And sent him away

To a slave camp in El Salvador.

And the dirty little voice inside me said,

Better him than me.

I lost my farm

And I stood to speak

They beat me and sent me away.

And the dirty little voice inside them said,

Better you than me.
